What Is Wainscoting?

Many may ask “what is wainscoting”? Traditional wainscoting is a type of decorative wood paneling that can be used alongside walls and cabinets. In the 18th century, the style of paneling changed from a floor-to-ceiling covering to one in which only the lower part of a wall would be covered.

One of the biggest questions that many get is “what’s the difference between wainscoting and beadboard?” The terms are commonly used interchangeably but they do have some important differences. Wainscoting is a style of the paneling and covers the lower third or half of the wall in a room to protect and prevent damage from your lower wall area. Beadboard is made up of narrow pieces of wood planks that align vertically on the wall.

Board and Batten

Board and Batten are essentially vertical boards mounted on areas of your home typically used to cover seams. The vertical boards are called battens.
