Our Process
Wellborn's semi-custom cabinetry is crafted in Ashland, Alabama. We are one of the few cabinetry companies today that remains vertically integrated. Wellborn controls the quality of the wood that is used in our cabinetry from the time it arrives at our sawmill as a tree. There the tree is cut into boards and placed in our kilns to dry. Once they are dry, they move on to the chop saws where the wood is hand-inspected to meet our exacting standards, only the finest part of these wood boards continues to be turned into cabinetry. Each cabinet whether it is a standard cabinet, semi-custom storage cabinet, or You Draw It cabinet, is crafted to order.
The face frames are hand sanded on the front and edges. The inside is hand-sanded and hand-rubbed to create a smooth protective surface.
Doors, drawer fronts, and face frames are hand-sanded, front and back, to eliminate cross-grain scratches and burley marks.
After the color stain is high pressure sprayed, the surfaces are hand rubbed to enhance the wood grain characteristics.
